In the last two years, there have been seven incidents of collisions between ships and fishing boats off the Kerala coast. These incidents have raised safety concerns among local fishermen and maritime authorities. The collisions have prompted discussions in the Lok Sabha, where officials emphasized the need for stricter monitoring of shipping lanes, better communication between vessels, and enhanced safety protocols to prevent such accidents in the future.
Authorities are also considering measures to improve navigational aids and implement awareness programs for fishermen to reduce the risk of similar incidents going forward.
